Building Tennis From The Ground Up Together

Reviving Tennis

Transforming Communities

Our Challenge:

Tennis is celebrated worldwide, yet in Johannesburg's inner city, its presence is fading. Years of neglect have:

  • Left courts and facilities in disrepair.

  • Restricted access to tennis programs for over 25,000 students in nearby schools.

This decline impacts:

  • Opportunities for Physical Activity: Students miss out on the health and wellness benefits of sport.

  • Personal Growth: Aspiring players are left without mentorship or development pathways.

  • Community Cohesion: A potential tool for teamwork and leadership goes underutilized.

Our Mission

Reverse the trend by creating the Joburg Tennis  Grassroots Development Centre

Our Vision

The Joburg Tennis Grassroots Rejuvenation Project is dedicated to creating:

  • A Healthier Community: Promoting fitness, wellness, and personal development.

  • Opportunities for All: Providing free tennis instruction to scholars and young adults.

  • Hubs of Excellence: Transforming underserved areas into thriving centers of tennis talent and camaraderie.

Our Offer

To achieve our vision, the Centre provides a comprehensive range of programs:

Professional Coaching: Personalized instruction for players of all ages and skill levels.

State-of-the-Art Facilities: Indoor and outdoor courts equipped with modern training tools.

Fitness and Conditioning Programs: Tailored regimens to improve agility, strength, and endurance.

Academic Support: After-school care, tutoring, and resources to ensure balance between sports and studies.

Coaching Qualifications: Training for aspiring coaches in sports science, psychology, and management.

Does Grassroots Tennis Matter?

Tennis is more than a game—it’s a pathway to:

Engaging Underserved Communities: Bringing opportunities where they’re needed most.

Developing Leadership and Teamwork Skills: Preparing young people for challenges on and off the court.

Strengthening Social Bonds: Reducing crime and fostering collaboration through positive engagement.

Craig Tilley, Australian Open CEO, says:
“As long as you have investment in grassroots tennis, and people playing the game with good people making good decisions, you're always going to be successful."
